Swim Team League
The Tarry Crest Swim Team competes in Division III of the Northern Westchester Swimming Conference which sponsors
competitive swimming and other activities among the swimming pools and organizations in Westchester County, New York. The
competitive season consists of dual "A" meets and a Divisional Championship. Less formal "B" meets provide
competition for swimmers of all skill levels. "B" meets typically begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Meets
Dual meets are competitions between two teams within the Division. Each meet includes competitions for Freestyle, Backstroke,
Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Relays. There are about 50 events in each meet, which typically last 2 to 3 hours.
"A" Meets
‘A’ meets are held on Saturday mornings and we swim against each of the other teams in our Division. Swimmers
chosen for the lineup in ‘A’ meets have special responsibilities. If a swimmer plans to go on vacation or will
be unavailable for a certain meet, the coach should be notified as early as possible. When a swimmer is to swim in an ‘A’
meet, he or she is expected to arrive at the announced time. Our ability to substitute for a missing swimmer is very limited,
so an unexpected absence hurts the team!
"B" Meets
The ‘B’ meets are developmental meets intended to: - Serve as an introduction to competitive
swimming for our younger swimmers.
- Provide swimmers with the opportunity to swim in events others than those they
typially compete in during 'A' meets.
- Provide the coaches with valuable information on the progress of the
participating swimmers.
These meets are held on Wednesday nights during the swim season and are run just
like a regular Saturday ‘A' meet, with a referee, starter, stroke and turn officials, and timers, but without the
pressure of team scoring. Ribbons are awarded at 'B' meets.
Lineups
Lineups for Saturday morning "A" meets are typically posted on the bulletin board by Friday mornings. Please
notify the coach immediately if you are unable to attend the meet sot that changes can be made in the line up. Each team is
allowed three scratches prior to the start of the meet Saturday morning. A scratch is a swimmer being taken out and a new
swimmer entered in their place. Please be sure to notify the coach if you are unable to attend. Swimmers
attending the less formal "B" meets, are encouraged to do all eligible strokes that the swimmer can legally swim.

Ribbons
'A' meet ribbons are written out at each meet and are distributed to team members at the annual Awards Dinner
held at the end of the season. 'B' meet ribbons are awarded at each meet.
Rain Dates
Swim meets take place in all types of weather - unless it would be unsafe to swim (e.g., lightning or very heavy rain).
Even if the weather is lousy, you should plan to go to the pool. Extreme weather conditions are often short and the meet might
only be delayed. If the conditions persist, a meet may be postponed until a different day.
